The V Forum of Rectors of Russian and Japanese Universities

The V Forum of Rectors of Russian and Japanese Universities was held in Tokyo on March 2−3, 2015. 26 Japanese universities as well as Ministry of Education of Japan and The Japanese Association of national universities took part in the event.

The Russian delegation consisted of Rectors and Vice-Rectors of 30 Russian universities and was chaired by Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Sadovnichy V.A.

At the opening ceremony of the event "Universities and Society — the role of universities in the contemporary society" Head of the Japanese delegation, President of Tohoku University Susumu Satomi, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy, who noted a great potential for a collaboration of Russian and Japanese universities, Director of Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education of Japan Mr. Daisuki Yoshida, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Japan Mr. Afanasyev E. took part.

During the Forum Russian and Japanese universities presented their latest achievements in education of the young generation and their researches. A vivid discussion between sessions and a numerous of questions testified to a great mutual interest in investigating different challenges, such as environment, disaster management, healthy food, agriculture development and renewable energy sources. In conclusion of the Forum a final Communiqué stating the main outcomes and perspectives of the future cooperation was elaborated and signed.
